Is it a Bug or is it a Wiggly? November 11, 2009 at 8:41 pm

It was the buzzing of a fly that woke me early this morning and got me thinking about bugs. We all have bugs that annoy us on occasion, but sometimes the solution is a flyswatter or a can of aerosol. When you get to think about bugs though your mind invariably turns to programs that have those irritating little things that you can’t get to go the way you want them to. When it comes to a program though, you just have to work at it until the solution comes to you. Sometimes it requires you starting over and when all else fails that’s what you need to do. My reboot key has been worked many times when I haven’t saved something and need to get back and the machine just won’t move. I hear the technophobes screaming don’t do that. But it works.

It would appear that some people are having a problem dragging and saving some widgets in WordPress. Obviously a lot will depend on what the actual widget is but most of the time it is merely a case of patience. Some items take an extraordinary amount of time to transfer especially on a slow machine. Some programs seem to overload the system, and it would appear that the current Java is one of these. It also appears to be slower if you are using Internet Explorer, for some reason. If you drag and drop in you might try walking away from the machine and doing something else for an hour before you give up in despair and try something else. I know patience has never been my strong suit so it’s difficult for me to do. However, there are other solutions if you don’t want to sit around and wait or go and do something else.

Did you check?

Have you checked on your WordPress to make sure you enabled the accessibility mode? You need accessibility mode for them to work properly.

Are you on windows 7?

There can be a problem with the .php extension if you put it in IIS7′s Output Cache. This can cause bugs to pop up in the program. Try keeping .php out of the output cache.

At the end of the day let’s face it folks a lot of what we do depend on us. We think we are doing something exactly as the instructions say, but either because we were disturbed in the process of doing something, or maybe we just read the instructions incorrectly, we can have done things in the incorrect order. Sometimes like me, you are just impatient. I am very guilty of this. I was it done yesterday. I am busy doing something and reading the instruction 3 steps further down the line. What I usually find is if I undo what I did and just take it slowly, and carefully it works first time. I guess patience is a necessity.
