WordPress SEO Optimatiztion February 27, 2010 at 1:22 pm
Serious this morning aren’t we? Actually, if you do it right it can be fun. A lot of time I think there’s great hype about SEO and is just another way of certain people aiming to make money out of you but. There are some things you need to do right, or you will never be found by the search engines. They aren’t that difficult. They are just little tricks of the trade. Simply said, there are some things those little spiders that the search engines send out, pick up, and some things they don’t. For example, much as we love the visual of a photograph, unless we have tags added to that photograph telling the spider what it is, it’s a wasted space for the search engine.
Ok let’s look at what a WordPress theme and SEO need to work properly.
We are going to start off looking at the name of your Site.
If you have it on WordPress it’s easy to change in the Permalinks. There is a section there that allows you to change the name from your ID or Date to a name of your choosing to your name (the Author) or the kind of blog that it is (the category). You do this in the writeable .htaccess file. It’s a known fact that Google loves WordPress, so they come looking at WordPress to see new items.
Sitemapping(Generate a sitemap and submitting it to search engines)
A site map of your WordPress immediately helps you. Just like me Google hates wasting time so make it easy for them to find things. Make sure all the links actually work. Make use the WordPress plug in which is available. It’s called “Google XML Sitemaps”. This makes is very easy for you. What they have done is they have it ready, just as Google likes it, and whenever you make changes and update your site, it tells Google at the touch of a button. You can also do this through Google by joining up with the “Webmaster” program here.
This also gives you info, which can help with any problems that might show up on the site by giving you a lot of feedback.
WordPress to the SEO rescue. (The All-in-One SEO Plugin)
One of the most popular plug-in on WordPress, this takes all the hassles out of SEO on WordPress. What it does is rewrite your titles to give better SEO, and it puts in the right meta tags for your Blog by picking up words and making them part of the meta tagging. You will see that there is an option for it to rewrite titles. You will also see you can write a new title.
The simple fact of the matter is no matter what you do once you have done the basics is there only thing that really makes a good blog and that will enable you to get to the top of the ranks on Google is to have Unique, good, well written content on an interesting subject. Google likes different. When something outstanding comes into its sights, it will take note of it. Keep your blog updated constantly. Tag your photos. And write good articles with unique content. Know your subject and be good at it. Happy, Seo’ing.
